Learning, Reflection & Service: Civil Rights Through Dr. King's Vision

Updated: 7 days ago

The West Windsor Human Relations Council invites all to join us for an afternoon of learning, reflection, and service in remembrance of The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr.

The program will include a variety of speakers on various aspects of civil rights, including Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson on civil rights in housing; Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli on healthcare and voting; Not in Our Town Princeton, a multi-racial, multi-faith group of individuals who stand together for racial justice and inclusive communities; and a member of the NJ Division on Civil Rights.

We will also hear from West Windsor resident Elliott Gordon, who will share his experience and his pictures from the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963.  It was the largest gathering for civil rights of its time. An estimated 250,000 people attended.

There will be musical performances by Surabhi Fusion, and by Wade Alan with Nilah Montgomery.

And finally, with help from Boy Scouts Troop 40, there will be a non-perishable food collection by Send Hunger Packing WW-P for the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank.  Volunteer opportunities to label SHUP bags.

Please join us!
