Breaking the Silence: Standing with Our Students on GLSEN’s Day of (No) Silence

As a Councilman of West Windsor Township, a public servant, and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I know firsthand the power of visibility, advocacy, and allyship. That’s why I am honored to stand with our students at Thomas Grover Middle School on GLSEN’s Day of (No) Silence, a national student-led movement that raises awareness about the silencing of LGBTQ+ youth due to bullying and discrimination.

Why the Day of (No) Silence Matters

For many LGBTQ+ students, school should be a place of learning, friendship, and growth—but too often, it is also a place of fear and exclusion. The GLSEN Day of (No) Silence sheds light on the voices that are too often ignored and challenges us to foster a school culture where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported.

This event brings attention to the experiences of LGBTQ+ youth and encourages conversations about how we can all do better in creating inclusive environments.

Showing Up, Speaking Out

This year, I am proud to participate in the activities at TGMS, where our students are leading the charge in recognizing this day. I’ll be joining discussions, supporting student-led initiatives, and standing in solidarity with those taking part.

I want every student—whether they are part of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally—to know this: Your voice matters. Your experiences matter. And you are never alone.

Building an Inclusive Future in West Windsor

Recognizing the Day of (No) Silence is not just about one day of action; it’s about committing to positive change. In West Windsor, we are fortunate to have strong, diverse communities that believe in equity, inclusion, and respect. But we must continue working together to ensure that every student feels safe and valued, every day of the year.

How You Can Help

  • Support LGBTQ+ students by being an ally and speaking up against discrimination.

  • Encourage inclusive policies in our schools and community.

  • Educate yourself and others on the challenges LGBTQ+ youth face.
